OMI Studio Policies

Scheduling

Once a student is accepted into the OMI studio, students will provide the instructor with all days and times they are not available, as well as their top three lesson choices. Preferred lesson times will be granted whenever possible.

Attendance

  • As a courtesy, students should notify the teacher when they are unable to attend a lesson.
    • Lessons should only be missed for reasons of illness or family emergencies.
    • A 24-hour notice is appreciated when possible.
  • Students wishing to make up a lesson or adjust a lesson time must contact the teacher to arrange an adjustment.
  • Students who miss more than two lessons in a semester (for reasons other than illness or a family emergency) will be automatically bumped to the waiting list for the next semester.

Finances

    • Lesson payment must be submitted (check, cash, or paypal*) by the first scheduled lesson of every month.
      • Late payment will result in a $10 late fine per week.
      • Lessons will be terminated indefinitely if payment is not received by the third week of the month.
      • Refunds will not be given for missed or canceled lessons.
      • Tuition is required for enrollment, not attendance.
    • Students must purchase their own books and materials.
      • The teacher will provide a link for the required item, though students are encouraged to support their local music stores.
      • Students are responsible to have the required materials in hand by the following lesson unless the item is on backorder.
Payments can be made through paypal with a $2 service fee.

Practicing

  • Goal oriented practice is encouraged. Generally, mastering the week’s goals will take the following time:
    • Elementary level goals: 15 minutes per day, 5 days per week
    • Late elementary level goals: 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week
    • Intermediate level goals: 45 minutes per day, 5 days per week
    • Advanced level goals: 1 hour per day, 6 days per week
  • Students must keep and submit a record of their daily practice time.

Student Expectations

  • Students must clip their nails below the top of the finger before lessons, or they will be required to clip their nails at the beginning of the lesson.
  • Students are expected to bring all required materials and books to each lesson.
  • Copyright laws must be followed by the teacher and the students.
  • Deportment
    • Refusing to listen to and/or respect the teacher in the lesson may result in a shortened lesson and/or a meeting with the parents.
    • Students must have respect for the teacher as the authority in the lessons.

Parent/Guardian Expectations

  • Attending lessons
    • Parents may take notes during the lessons, but all questions and comments must be discussed after the lesson is finished.
    • Parents of students ages 13-17 may attend the last five minutes of the lesson, but attendance is not required.
    • Parents of students ages 8-12 must attend either the entire lesson or the last five minutes for the review time.
    • Parents of students ages 3-7 must attend the lesson each week.
  • Parent/Teacher Contact
    • Questions regarding the lesson may be asked in the last five minutes of the lesson during review time.
    • Parents should never interrupt students’ lessons at any time.
    • All questions regarding finances must be submitted through email.

Media Permissions

  • Parents agree to allowing the publication of students’ pictures and first names in local publications and the studio website.
  • To be exempt from this policy for extenuating circumstances, parents may ask the teacher for an exemption form.
